One of Rupert Sheldrake's "Seven Experiments that Could Change the World" deals with the psychic behavior of pets; behavior animal owners often recognize in their pets, but for which no scientific explanation pertains. In asking friends about their experiences with their pets, I came across two anecdotes which are particularly amusing.
Rob has two dogs. Zooey is part wolf, big, beautiful and playful. Amy is a tiny black dachsund whose legs are no longer than Zooey's ears.
One afternoon, Rob was napping on the bed, with the two dogs curled up next to him. He found himself in a dream in which he was out running the dogs, except that Amy the dachsund was running powerfully out ahead like a stallion while Zooey the wolf scrambled pathetically behind her to catch up. After awhile Rob began to think that this was pretty strange and woke up. He glanced over at Amy the dachsund, she opened her eyes, and on meeting his gaze broke out in an embarrassed and sheepish grin. Seems she had gotten Rob into her dream...
Robert used to train his cat to fetch- small things- and the cat would bring them back and put them in his shoe. After many years the cat disappeared. Eventually a new cat came to live with him. One day, he tossed a paper wad to this new cat. Robert was surprised when the cat fetched it, and stunned when the cat placed the wad in his shoe. Stranger still, the next morning, Robert found paper wads in his shoe and also in his wife's shoe as well.
